Sandfire’s president is a master glassblower who had a classical training under the glassblower at the Inorganic Chemistry Lab, Oxford University, England. There, he was a part of such projects as the design and manufacture of the Haldane Gas Analysis apparatus, a portable unit for analyzing the gas content in blood that was used in one of the earlier climbs of Mount Everest.
He then gained experience with various other university and industry positions before starting Sandfire Scientific in 1975.
Taylor grew up in a world of scientific glassblowing. From the age of 14, he apprenticed under the tutelage of his father before heading out into the world to learn other crafts. Taylor spent 6 years in the mineral exploration industry and gained valuable expertise in a number of areas, such as machining and fabrication, which proves invaluable in manufacturing Quartz and glass products. Armed with this added knowledge, and a young family, it was time for Taylor to rejoin his father as a scientific glassblower.
Taylor is committed to his craft and is dedicated to continue the tradition that Richard started nearly 40 years ago. Sandfire Scientific is a premier scientific glassblowing shop, and the next generation is eager to continue in that vein, as well as to expand the business in an ever evolving industry.
